Viewing Full E-mail Headers

Troubleshooting e-mail issues often requires seeing the full headers of an e-mail message.  E-mail headers contain all the information about the journey an email takes from one computer to another.  Below are instructions on how to harvest the e-mail headers from many of the most popular e-mail clients.

Outlook 2003:

  • Double click on the message you want to view.
  • In the “View” menu, select “Options”.
  • At the bottom of the dialog box you should see “internet headers”. You should be able to copy and paste this information into an e-mail.

Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0

  • Double click on the message you want to view.
  • In the “View” menu, got to “Headers” and click on “All”.
  • This will display all of the headers at the top of the message for you to copy.
