ThunderBird 1.5 New Email Configuration

It is pretty simple to add a new account to the Thunderbird mail client.

Click the “Edit” menu then “Account Settings”.

Click “Add Account”.

Click “Email Account” then “Next”.

Fill in your name and e-mail address, press Next.

Your next choice is whether you want to use POP or IMAP.  Most people POP their mail. POP’ing downloads the mail from the mail server to your personal computing device while IMAP simply shows you what is on the server without removing it from the server until you want to.

Now you are asked to fill in the incoming server.  Contact your hosting provider for details.

Next you will be asked to fill in your username for your e-mail account.  Username standards vary, but in most cases, the username for your email account will either be the full email address or the first part of your email address.  So, if you are john@aosoft.com, your username would be john or john@aosoft.com.

Finally, you are asked what you would like to call this account.  This should be a simple name to distinguish this account from any other email account you may configure.

You will get a summary, check your information, and if everything is ok press Finish.

Once you are done, you should see your newly created Mail Client Account in a list on the left site.  Click on the “inbox” under the account name and you should be prompted for your email account password.

If you have filled everything in correctly, you should now be able to enjoy Thunderbird.  If you have any problems, your hosting provider may be able to help.  If not, a quick google search will produce a wealth of information.
